Instructor Assistants

Instructor Assistants are Kode With Klossy alumni that support camps by leading community-building and exploratory sessions, debugging and refining code, and empowering scholars to pursue their passions.

Instructor Assistants (IAs) help scholars navigate their coding journey, develop confidence in their newfound skills, and bring fun, energy, and inspiration to the classroom. We look for Kode With Klossy alumni who are passionate about teaching, mentoring, and empowering others.

IAs are responsible for…

  •  Supporting Kode With Klossy summer instructors throughout camps with lesson delivery, classroom management, community building, and logistics

  • Monitoring scholar understanding of and proficiency in coding skills and support with debugging and adapting content to meet scholar needs

  • Fostering a dynamic, empowering, and supportive learning environment

  • Building classroom culture by leading team-building games, providing feedback on curriculum and instructional strategies, and working individually with scholars

FAQ

  • What is the selection process for IAs? When will I hear if I have been selected?
New IAs are selected based on an application followed by an interview. The most important qualities we are looking for are mission-alignment, leadership, flexibility, equity-mindedness, dependability, and collaboration. Returning IAs will complete a written application. Applicants will be notified of their application status on a rolling basis. All applicants will receive a final decision notification by the end of March.
  • Who should apply as a returning IA?
Anyone who has served as an IA at Kode With Klossy camps in previous summers OR has been a Campus Workshop Facilitator should apply as a "returning IA."
  • Can I apply to be a scholar and an IA? Can I be a scholar after I've served as an IA?
Once you've been an IA you can no longer be a scholar. If you have not attended camps across all of our curricular offerings, we encourage you to consider exhausting all curricular options before applying to become an IA. That said, if you still choose to apply to be an IA but ultimately are not selected, you can still apply to be a scholar.
  • Will camps be virtual or in-person?
In the summer of 2023, camps will be held both virtually and in-person in specific locations across the United States. Applicants will have the option to share their preference for an in-person and/or virtual camp placement. It is important to note that only those who are 18 years old or older by the start of training on March 2023 will be placed in in-person camps.
